Nairn has come up with a wizard wheeze- a 'village' for people aged 45+ with no children, who want to spend their mature leisure years in an orgy of gof and shopping.

They don't advertise the price of this- but the website's worth a look

http://www.caledonianretreats.co.uk/

The idea is an American one- a sort of Wisteria Lane without kids
What does the org think, and should Caithness have something like this?

I would be happy with a pub that was 45+ and no kids never mind a village, but that concept would be fine for those inclined.

they call it a village - but it is really just a housing estate on the outskirts of town, there are no pubs, golf courses or any other facilities that I am aware off - just peace and quiet!

Just wait a couple of years and this will be the whole of Caithness

It could be put another way - or more than one actually.

'If you think anyone under the age of 45 is someone you would not want for a neighbour, come and live in Coffindodger, our brand new concept community situated at a comfortable distance from any chavs....'

or

'Don't like kids? Come to Greylands, a small and bijou concentration camp set in the lovely wrinkled Nairn countryside...our well trained watchtower guards will blow away anything teenaged on sight. Family visits by arrangement with the Commandant'

or

'Where am I?'
'In the village'
'Who are you?'
'You are number 6'......

You could dress your kids up to look 45. Flat caps and all that.

I'm laughing at your amusing replies, John!

Make way for the Stepford Seniors of Firhall Village, where life is picture perfect......

I note that there are no prices quoted on the website, so presumably it costs an arm and a leg to live there!! As for the service charges, those are probably extortionate, and no doubt will increase every year. I quote:

"The actual amount is set annually by the trustees of the Firhall Village Trust."

And the last item that the service charges cover:

"A sinking fund against future extraordinary expenditure."

Extraordinary expenditure indeed! Of YOUR money!!!

But having said all that, it does sound attractive in some ways, and Nairn and the surrounding area is lovely......

there are a couple still on the Remax website - although they are sold, price around £250K for 3 bed bungalow, a bit on the pricey side compared to Caithness but they all seem to have sold fairly quickly.

It is a strange idea but each to their own and I am sure the people who have bought into it are quite happy. I do not think it is for me though.

I lived in a designated block in Edinburgh for the "over 50`s with no children". The place was running with hooligans every day as they stayed with granny or auntie whilst parents went out to work.

Some pensioners can make as much noise as children, especially deaf ones who shout and need the TV at max volume.

Can`t see it working in real life.
