Does anyone know, please -

If I didn't have a television but wanted to watch the BBC News via the internet, would I still require a TV licence?

Any live streamed TV or repeats on sites like BBC iPlayer or 4Online - yes you do. For watching movies online or series that you can get on sites like love film - no you are free to watch them without a licence :)

Is this thread to prompt discussion or to just get an answer? I just don't understand why people ask questions on a forum when they could just google it and find out.....seeing as you are online anyway

It has always puzzled me :)

Seemingly you need a licence to watch live tv as it's being broadcast.

I don't know the reasons for Marwill posting, but with the total divergence of opinion on the net, good idea to ask?

You only need one for live streams. If you use iPlayer/4Online to catch up on programmes that were broadcast earlier then you don't need one.

Watching TV on the internet
You need to be covered by a licence if you watch TV online at the same time as it's being broadcast on conventional TV in the UK or the Channel Islands.

Thank you for your replies everyone. I just wanted to know what others thought or knew regarding the Tv licence and watching on the internet.
Maybe I should have worded it differently for some people.;)
