care available when 63 years old

Help looking for advise re care for someone who is 63 years old. Have been told we are not entitled to care as the person is only 65. Doesn't meet the criteria for day centre either, family at end of tether with another 2 years to wait for any help. Any advise would be helpful.

Have you consulted this older person's GP? That would be the place to start.

Have u been to citazins advice? They are really good and might be able to point you in the right direction. Hope you get some help, our family all chip in and help each other with granny-in-law, makes it easier for everyone.

Do you mean care at home, or in a carehome?

GP should be first port of call, followed by an assessment by social services. If the elder person has been in hospital they should ensure there is an adequate care plan in place before discharge, regardless of age.

Depending on the level of care required the family could arrange a private home carer, or if there is a "Crossroads" scheme in your area they may be able to help.

Make a noise, lots of noise. Don't let them fob you off. Bug social services until they're sick of the sight of you. He who shouts loudest is most definitely true in this case.

Do not accept anything that puts your relative at risk.

Oh and write to your MP. Don't know if it'll do any good but you never know.

Hey don't see wyh age would stop you getin access 2 care as there is young people living in the community with chronic conditions who get personal care from Homecare and access to Day Care? Im with others get onto your GP, phone Social Services explain situation ie you are not managing and try contacting Laurandy Day Care, Homecare and Crossroads yourself to find out their criteria. As some1 else has said insist!
