I enjoy socialising and mixing with people. I also value the cohesion of strong communities. I also respect the law of the land with respect to drinking and driving.

So why don't we campaign for better bus timetables which serve our basic need to join together socially? Instead, we are forced into putting ourselves at an inconvenience everytime by denying ourselves an opportunity to enjoy an evening with eachother. It could be that buying a car to suit our needs or refraining from booze may be that fundamental reason for the inconvenience. Was it always like this or is it the modern world?

A bus service at extended hours, say, am around trip at 9pm then perhaps one at 11pm+ along the north coast from Thurso to Bettyhill and back would be good for local business in my humble opinion.

my 2p, let rip plz

You're the one that chose to live in Reay. Deal with it, or move to Thurso.

Have you thought of contacting the bus companies Rheghead to see why they do not provide a late night service?
I hear this gripe from many people, they can get to Thurso or Wick but can't get back.
Perhaps they could be persuaded to run a limited service on Friday or Saturday nights only if enough interest was shown.

Would you like to drive it Rheghead? Hardly anyone uses the bus at the moment, what makes you think more would use it late at night?

Not a bad idea but would it pay them? Maybe one of the local contractors might be interested.;)

Away back in my dancing hay-day we could get a bus to any of the many country dances, or indeed to Wick on a Friday or Saturday night, but had to thumb a lift home or walk it, as I have had to do on more than one occasion and in high heels too.

Guess it comes down to how much you really want to be there. Would like minded souls share a taxi for a special night out perhaps?

having a late service has been tried in the past. it was a complete waste of time as only 2 or 3 people used it and i wouldn,t say that they were going out socialising

Who wants to drive a bus with the likelihood that you'll be picking up a bunch of drunks, puking or looking for trouble?

Why not get a wee tent and pitch it in the camping site then you have a base for the night and you drive home in the morning ??;)

And you expect one lone bus driver to stop 2 or 3 drunks getting on a bus

there appear to be a lot of things you're "not allowed" to do which get a blind eye turned to them in Caithness!
