Spotted this bird on an old wire fence near the cliff edge while sea watching this afternoon.

Have never seen a linnet in real life.

Great photo.
Linnets are quite widespread in Caithness but we often don't notice them because they are rather shy and unobtrusive.

Linnets are quite widespread in Caithness but we often don't notice them because they are rather shy and unobtrusive.

Linnets are very numerous in east Caithness, much more common than the other finches from what I have seen. Walking or cycling is the best way to see them along the roadside fences or hedges.
I have seen them on the outskirts of Wick but not actually in the town.
