Right this thread will show you how to post pictures of goods you're selling.
I'v seen a few posts that people say they don't know how to.

Right, you get your pic onto your computer whichever way you do it, scanner, usb, memory stick, etc.

Save it to a suitable folder and then go to this address.

Click on browse and navigate to your picture and double click.

The picture's file directory will now be showing in the box.

Click on host it and it will start to load a new page, don't worry if it takes longer than usual.
If the servers busy then it can take a few seconds.

When the new page loads scroll down to the bottem of the page.

What's a URL?

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. Sounds grand, don't it?

It just means a web address where your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera etc) gets the information that allows it to find whatever you're looking for be it web page, document, graphic etc. For example you'll find the URL for Caithness.org in your address bar right now (the window right at the top of your browser).

The first part :- http://forum.caithness.org takes you to the message board index page. The rest of it might look like gobbledygook but it's a kind of code for the browser. Each page on the Internet has a unique URL.

To find out the URL of a graphic on the web, place your mouse pointer over it and right-click. The pop-up menu might vary from browser to browser but you're looking for something like: properties. Highlight the text where it says location. Right-click and select copy. Now that URL is in memory and you can now paste it wherever you like.

By George, i think I've got it! Hint; phorobucket is easier, cos u can use copy and paste for the link, don't bother with the wee 'insert imag' icon.
With imageshack you have to use the wee icon, and the copy/paste doesn't work with it for some reason.

I just right clicked on the placeholder for the picture (box with red X in) and looked at the properties - it gave the URL for the image as being http://http//img442.imageshack.us/img442/3969/random003iz2.jpg - there should definately only be one http:// at the front - the second http// should be removed. The correct URL should read http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3969/random003iz2.jpg which appears to work fine.

Maybe that will help you determine where you're going wrong. Are you putting in the http// yourself? Best way to get a URL is, once you've got the required picture on screen, then just copy the URL straight from the address bar, then paste it into your post.

I have noticed that when you copy an image from, say, Photobucket... it adds the http:// to the front of the URL. Then, when you go to paste it into the org picture dialog box it also has http:// there already. If you don't notice this you invariably then get two https when you paste. Perhaps Colin needs to remove the one from the org dialog box. ;)

i had the same problem when i first joined up.Took me a while but i found the easiest solution was to open a photobucket account. Upload my pics into that and then copy the link.paste it into the insert link above. Remove the wriiten http in the box and then just paste it..The only problem with this way is i have never managed to get 2 or more pics on the same page ..It will show one pic and the other two are just the link adresses.But it does work.Hope this helps...

Hey hotrod. You need to use the bottom link of the four options provided beside your image on photobucket. That will show as the same as your link above did before submitting but with [IMG] at beginning and end instead of [url]

When you're typing in the reply box, it's the one in the row of icons that looks sort of like a little postcard with mountains and the sun on it.

As I said to Hotrod above, you need to click and copy the IMG Code which is the bottom of the four options to the right of the photo:-

Just to clarify, you copy the link from the Photobucket site and simply paste it into the body of the text in your message on the org. No icons or buttons needed on the org. When pasted the message will appear as a string of text but will be replaced by the photo once you hit preview or submit. Please tell me this works, I've tried several times to help people but had no joy!!

I use this software to resize my pics:-

It is simple to use and is free. It will prompt you to donate from time to time but you simply decline. You can resize to a particular resolution or as a percentage of the original photo etc. I usually just play about until it gets to the size I need.

The program is less than 1MB in size and is fine for my needs.

I may have to pass on the garden duties!!

At the top of the message box there is an icon that looks like a postcard with some mountains on it, click on that and paste the url that you have on your last post into the box ensuring that you do not repeat the "http://", there should only be one set of this.

Most photo packages should be able to resize images no problem. I use Paint Shop Pro myself, but a good free package is Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/)

Annie, if you follow your link to imageshack you will see some options on the right side of the page. In the area entitled "Embed this image" you will see a heading "Forum", left click inside the box and it will turn blue. Right click and copy the link. Simply paste into your post and a long string starting and ending with URL will be pasted in. One you preview or submit, this turns into your image, as seen above.

Here's a repeat of my recent posting in the Photography forum which should prove helpful.

'Got your pictures on your computer? Good.
Go online and join a free image hosting service. There are quite a few to choose from...I use Photobucket (but that's just a personal choice) http://photobucket.com/

Once signed up, create an album. Upload your pics to your album.
Open the album and for each picture there will be several links such as 'Direct', 'HTML' or IMG.
Copy the IMG link and paste it into your 'message reply' posting to the thread in Caithness forums you are wanting your image to appear in. Preview your post and if happy, submit it.

Unless you have a reason to do so, don't delete the image on your image hosting service, otherwise it will disappear from your posting.'

I should also mention that is is not advisable to upload .bmp (bitmap) pictures...stick to .jpg's.

Image shack isn't working at the moment, it won't upload photos. Trying to upload photos via the options in a thread on the org doesn't work either. How are we supposed to get new photos uploaded? Photo bucket doesn't work either.
