Thank you for that info Kas & fotcom.

It's very odd, the Hamnavoe is in now and it's showing on the AIS but not this ship - I know now though. :)

Alexander von Humboldt passed Cape Wrath at approx 0930 this morning, heading straight for the bombing and firing range then in use by vessels of the French Navy.

Much frantic messaging from a French naval operator in the radio room culminating in an instruction, as only the French can do, to IMMEDIATELY head north of 58 degrees 38 mins N and out of the danger area.

Cruise ship made a sharp turn to port and out to sea, thus avoiding a surprise gift from our Gallic neighbours, but at the same time denying the passengers a close-up view of the Clo Mhor cliffs, which many cruise ships like to view.

I had a perfect grandstand view of all this, from the CW lighthouse, and I followed all the transmissions on VHF radio, giggling.

A taxi driver told me there is a stooshie about these cruise ships.

Passengers were being charged £50 for a return trip to the castle of mey.

The bus company is from the south and is the same one that provides transport at Invergordon, where there was an informal blockade of the road by local taxis protesting at the rip-off.
