Is there any way to recover them?
There are years of info on that. How do I recover them? Can I? How do I?:

I've sucessfully used Easeus Data Recovery Wizard Pro to retrieve customer's files in such scenarios. They offer a free version (http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm) which is limited to recovering 1Gb of data - it depends if that will be enough for you. I'm not sure if you can then run it again and select a different 1Gb of files but it's worth a try.

However, do not do anything to that drive before recovery - anything you do may permanently lose your data. Ideally you need to connect the drive to another PC which is already up & running Windows. Install the data recovery software on the running PC and get it to analyse and recover the files from the attached drive.

Best of luck.

No. I had Windows XP on it and it malfunctioned. I used Linux from a CD for awhile (the files were still intact) and I then wiped Windows off, not knowing it would erase my drive. Is there any software that can recover the files? At least remanants.

oh the pain the pain....

so its windows files that have been deleted whilst running linux from a CD?

so basically you have not used the HDD for anything since windows failed....

or did you run format or fdisk or WHY linux cmd on it?

as a 1st off i'd try
restoration.exe

one of the simplist ones.

or try Recuva - http://www.piriform.com/recuva - Its also free and may be a bit easier compared to Restoration. You can also find a few download links at http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5514
