Iain has done so much in wick, and in Caithness, too much to mention, eg the wick Heritage centre, cleaning of the trinkie, renovating the "Fortuna", fixing the Whalligoe Steps, etc.etc.

I would like to add my Congratulations too.
Iain Sutherland deserves this recognition if ever anyone did !
We all know the important part he played in starting the Wick Heritage Centre - now one of the best in the north. But we must not forget the hours of endless work he put into different projects around Wick.
Painting the Trinkie each year, renewing the Whaligoe Steps for which Iain and his team were major prize winners in the Shell Better Britain Campaign, the complete overhaul of the Pilot House - and promoting it as the smallest Museum in the world, the re-opening of the North baths.. ....I could go on!
Iain Sutherland also wrote several books including the Wick and Lybster Railway, Whaligoe Steps, short stories and plays. He is without doubt a man of many talents and never failed to encourage others.
His local knowledge knows no boundaries.
Well done Iain, and very many thanks for all you have done for Wick and Caithness.

The Whalligoe steps is one of the mosr amazing bits of social history I have ever seen - had our attention drawn to them by a local when passing through a few years ago - those folk must have been tough!

imho the honour system should be abolished and replaced with modest cash awards for those who have served and helped their local communities.Perhaps followed up with invitations to Buck House garden party's to meet Liz.
