Thanks to a huge coronal hole (http://www.spaceweather.com/)in the sun, the northern lights are likely to make an appearance over the next few days. Hope it stays clear.

It's such a pea-souper here that I can hardly see the street lights. never mind the Northern lights. :eek: Hope it's going to be nice and clear over the next few days if it does happen.;)

This is a great site for aurora warnings - has allowed me to see the norther lights a few times way down south here near glasgow

I registered ages ago, not had an email even though I've seen alerts elseware.:(
That seems to be the way of it ducati. I use a couple of warning sites but nothing beats going out in to the garden and looking up!!
There is a great page on facebook called i thing northern lights. Some stunning pics and films from the far north....worth a look!

I get emails from them regular when there is activity if there is no activity then no mails - given that the sun is just recopvering from a solar min imum.I would expect there to be more emails as the activity picks up.
I tried to register for this but it keeps coming up with a server error.:(

University of Alaska has a good site as well:
http://www.gedds.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/
(if it's not showing Europe, select it from the box in the top left). Any forecast of 3 or higher may be visible from the north coast.
