Anyone know of a spray I can use near crops to kill these beasties?

Some info here http://www.turfshop.co.uk/index/page/13/

You need to be careful what you spray or you will kill useful insects like bees also. As bees are under many other threats we should try not make life tougher for them

Are your leather jackets not in your grass. If they are then birds will probably get many of them.

The article suggests a benign method using black polythene.

The ones I'm concerned about are the ones in my Brassica cage.

I've just lost all my young plants and have so far picked all the Leatherjackets out and put them on the bird table as I know that most sprays are supposed to be used in Autumn once the Daddy long legs have laid their fresh larvae.
Never been a problem before but I had some soil delivered from the down the road and there's loads of em.

Thanks for the link though. I'll see what the advice is.
