Glasgow - apartments/self catering

Hi, we are going to a wedding in West Glasgow in October and are looking for accommodation. We want to make a weekend of it and, having a small child, find it easier to go self catering as it is more relaxing. Has anyone any experience of using 'serviced apartments'? They look like a good idea but are they worth the money?
