We’re carrying out research into members of the royal family who visited Dounreay.
We have photos of The Queen Mother’s two visits in 1957 and 1961 and The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit in 1957.
However, we know that Prince Bernhardt of The Netherlands visited Dounreay on 18th July 1958 and Princess Mary visited us twice - on 27th September 1957 and again on 26th August 1960. So far we have been unable to trace any photos from these visits.
Do you know of any other members of the royal family who have visited the site or have photos from the above visits? We’d appreciate any information you can offer.
If you can help please get in touch with the Dounreay Communications team at: communications@dounreay.com (javascript:location.href='mailto:'+String.fromCha rCode(99,111,109,109,117,110,105,99,97,116,105,111 ,110,115,64,100,111,117,110,114,101,97,121,46,99,1 11,109)+'?subject=Royal%20visitors%20information')

Royalty? The King of Rock'n'roll sneaked onto the Dounreay site on his pink Harley-Davidson with megaphone exhausts, just the other week.

He hopped off the bike for a quick dozen canteen cheeseburgers and a rendition of "Return (nuclear waste) to Sender" before cannily creeping back out past the security guards on his huge, deafening fluorescent motorbike.
