We are very excited over in Bettyhill because we have just taken delivery of three new machines for our fitness suite - a recumbent cycle, a new cross trainer and a vibration plate fitness machine, which simply has to be tried! This is a cut & paste from the manufaturer's website...

The benefits of vibration training have been promoted by fitness professionals and verified by academic medical research. Vibration training is effective for:

Rapid weight loss and toning.
Reducing cellulite.
Increasing strength and flexibility.
Improving circulation and bone density.
Reducing recovery time from pain and injury.

Spend less time working out: Vibration training takes traditional exercise routines and intensifies them through the application of vibration. This allows you to reduce the length of your workouts and achieve results in unprecedented time.
The Facts: Scientists at the University of Antwerp recently carried out a study into the affects of vibration training on weight loss. To do this they gave the same dietary advice to three groups of people. The first group did no exercise for six months, the second did aerobic activity such as swimming three times a week and the final group used vibration machines for 13 minutes a day, five days a week.
After six months the vibration group lost nearly two-thirds more abdominal fat than the aerobic group. They also lost 11% of their body fat compared to 7% for the aerobic group and 6% for the diet only group.

:Razz You'd be just as well sitting on the washing machine during the full cycle!

And that might be more fun too.

I thought a vibration plate was one of these things for compacting new tarmac areas or compacting infill below roads and paths. Hanging onto one would be a good workout for the upper body but may shake some fillings out.

We do have a new washing machine too... ;)

This thing is great though - it squeezes a one hour workout in ten minutes and burns fat just by standing on it. Great for massaging sore muscles too...

I'm afraid North Coast Leisure Centre doesn't take High Life - the centre is a community owned and run facility rather than a council one. Prices are competitive though, join as a gym member for £10 and a gym session including vibration plate is £4.00. There is also the pool, spa and sauna and the great advantage is the gym is hardly ever that busy - there's the feeling of an exclusive private health club without the price tag.
