Ok, i live in East Church Street, I have a westie. I ALWAYS pick up his poop and dispose of it in the correct manner. If whoever is dumping dog turd in my garden is reading this... STOP.
It's annoying me somewhat now.

Same thing happened to me! I am sure they will regret it if you catch them!

I found out it was a learning disabled chap who lives nearby with minimal support. I just shot his dog.

Well, no actually I spoke to him and now he brings his doggie round when he needs to be out all day, so it is getting socialised with mine, (used to be a very agro wee thing). Result!

That's my only bugbear with living in the Atomics - you can't fence off your garden to stop 'em! Mowed the front lawn for the first time on Saturday and almost boaked at the smell of mushed dog poop [disgust]. The only dog in the immediate vicinity is well trained (as are the owners!), so it must be from the dogs frequently walked past my house. Maybe time a camcorder was set up for proof to show the appropriate authority...

I saw a bloke walking his dog one day and he allowed his dog to drop one right outside my gate and he started to walk off, I was out like a shot and shouted up the street "where do you live" he replied "whats it got to do with you" I said that Every time I want a dump I'll come and do it on his door step. A few of my neighbours started clapping and shouting at him and strangely enough I never saw him walk his dog down our street again.

How come u are not allowed a fence up around here anyways?

Anyway, im sick of "poop dodging"! They should make it a sport actually. There ae alot of people who walk their dogs around this area, and always on the corner of my street there is usually a fresh poo once a week to dodge. Also on the way to the shop there are at least 3 poops to dodge around! [evil]

Ach some archaic rule from when the UKAEA owned the Atomics I believe - think it was to promote open spaces & a sense of community or something like that!

While I agree it looks better than everyone's patches hemmed in by walls, fences, etc. the current situation sure makes you feel glad that the incosiderate owners have somewhere other than their own gardens for their dogs to poop in [evil].

seriously gets me mad walking to Pennyland School with my daughter and every second I have to say " watch for dog poo". There is always a huge one right outside the main gates. DISGUSTING, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, STOP DOING IT. BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!!!

I used to do this Errogie. Bag it, hang it or place it somewhere safe away from the main footpath, wherever we walked with our dog. I always picked it up on our way back home.

Drop it beside the main household bin and put it in at the last minute before the bin-men arrive to uplift it. My preference was to deposit it in the designated Dog-Pooh bins dotted around the Country. I have no idea what happens to the content of these bins.

that's the thing, my wee bit of front garden has a wall and a gate, it is just inside the gate it is dropped. the gate is always closed, so no dog has just casually wandered in, and the stuff that has been dumped, so to speak, is pretty dry, so it isny fresh stuff.
i can only assume that they think i leave my dogs crap out by their house.

i don't even mind if they want to put it in my bin!

The worst place Ive seen for dog Sh*t is Castletown.
Man o man you've more chance of not stepping on a crack in the pavement than treading in dog turd, its a disgrace

That's interesting BB unless you're on a wind up. I was led to believe that it was not possible to compost dog pooh. Our friendly, neighbouring farmer was happy for us to throw our grass cuttings over the wall. We never did, fearing that some dog pooh may have been missed and would contaminate the crop. :confused

OK BB, We don't have a dog anymore so I guess my concern is irrelevant now. Thanks for the reply though - I'll bear it in mind. :)

I agree! Castletown is terrible. Every morning when I walked to work along Murrayfield there would be several large dumps on the pavement. It was that bad in the dark mornings that I used to walk on the road to avoid it. The pavement down to the beach is bad as well, as is the footpath and surrounding area from the carpark to the where the first bridge used to be. I have 2 dogs myself and I always carry poop bags with me and 'pick up', as should every dog owner.

Just say it Doyle, the dark nights I would sooner cross a mine field than try and cut over the grass verge at the chippers. Same people responsible all the time!

Hydatid Disease (Echinococcosis)
Hydatid disease (also known as Echinococcosis or cystic hydatid disease) results from infection with the larvae (a developing phase) of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus. The tapeworm is found most commonly in dogs that consume organs or meat of infected sheep.

The eggs of this tapeworm are excreted in the faeces of infected dogs and are directly infectious to other animals. Sheep (in particular) and cattle can become infected by grazing on pasture contaminated with dog faeces containing these tiny eggs. These eggs are highly resistant and can survive on the ground for up to a year.

After the eggs have been ingested from contaminated grass, they hatch inside the intestine of the sheep and the next (larval) stage of the tapeworm penetrate the gut wall and are carried by the bloodstream to various parts of the body, such as the liver and lungs, where they slowly develop into cysts (called hydatids). These cysts can grow quite large and contain many young tapeworms floating in clear fluid (hydatid sand).

If a dog is then fed on, or allowed to scavenge an infected animal carcase, the cysts are ingested and the cyst wall is digested in the gut, releasing protoscolices which develop over about two months into adult tapeworms inside the dog’s intestine, producing eggs. These are then excreted in the faeces of the dog, causing further spread of infection.

Humans can also become infected by the eggs shed in dog faeces (for example by the dog licking the face after it has been cleaning itself), followed by oral transfer. The eggs may also contaminate other objects such as leads The egg then hatches in the intestine, penetrates the gut wall and travels throughout the body where they lodge in the tissues.

Castletown Post Office usually has a supply of free bags, very handy  and there are doggy do bins at the beach carpark and one on the beach path so there is no excuse. There are always people who don't give a dog poo though.

I wish they would bring back some sort of licensing for dogs and use the revenue to provide more wardens and chasing up people who do this kind of thing.

I thought the gubberment were talking about it recently, but it was suggested that only responsible dog owners would buy a licence so there was no point. To my mind if it is backed by law with proper penalties then it should be fine.

There is a consultation questionnaire about liscencing at the mo but it is tied into the DDA.

If you checkout here you can voice your own opinion in the questionnaire.

What do you suggest would be a "proper penalty" for those who keep animals and are incapable of looking after them?

It's not the dogs that should be lincensed it should be a license for people who are responsible dog owners.

Jings00 how often does this happen to you?

If it's regular, I'd leave a note or a sign on your gate "To the person who dumps dog poop in my owners garden, please note that it's not mine" ! Signed wee Westie !!

Never going to be a sensible reply on this, coz' there are far to many backsides out there who never give a tiny little toss for the civility that most of us take for granted!.I had our two dogs out the other day, an round the corner came two pcso' I thought-knickers- they will do me coz' they are both off the lead! (the dogs no the old bill) an the big dog duely does the buisness....oh ,i whipped out a doggy bag an promptly scoopes it up-,the male part of the duo, says -thats good, wish everyone was as considerate! Continued the walk with a smile.:)
