I read the thread on a Number Plate being found and it made me think.

My First Car that I owned was a Austin A30, Green, First Registered in 1954, I was the 13th owner and it cost me £25.00 and the Number Plate was FGS 762. I also named this Car "Josephina" and every car I have since then has been named, the car that I have now is called "The Captain"

How many of you in orgland remember the Make of their First Car and what was the Reg Number? Did you name your Car? If so what did you call it?

My first car was a FIAT 127, complete with full size sun roof made of fabric which used to freeze up in the winter and would drip on any occupants while it thawed out. It was old when I got it in 1990 but I loved it. Registration RSF 127 V. It didn't have a name but I remember collecting my daughter from school and travelling home with her head out the roof and the seat belt still round her shoulder! It was gold in colour and I thought I was inheaven with it as it saved me a 3 mile round walk to the school and back. Not that far but when it's wet, cold and windy it was miserable!! The only car I named was returned to the seller under the sale of goods act as not fit for purpose!! The garage wasn't happy to get back their six week old vehicle but it was ****. Its reg. was SF04XXN. Other regs. I've owned are B150 KSG (Polo), M911 ETC (Tipo), T297 UHW (Punto) and SF04 CKU (Getz)

My first car was a Simca, I can't recall the reg. number. I've never given any of my cars a name, though they've been called a few when they won't start. :D

When I lived in Golspie, back in the late 70's and early 80's, I had a simca. It was blue but rust was showing through so I painted it in White Enammel paint. I was on its last legs and I drove it to a Garage in inverness who said they gave a £1000.00 trade in for any car no matter what condition it was in.

They had a Car I liked a Renault 16TX for £1800.00 so I showed him my car parked beside a lampost, it reality i think it was leaning on the Lampost, One headlamp taped in and just before I pulled up the exhaust had fell off.

The sales man walked around and he asked me how I would be paying, I advised him it would be Cash. OK he said in that case I will give you a Thousand Pounds in trade in for your car and you give me £800.00 cash and the Renault is yours.

I just stood there with my mouth open as I could not believe this. After a Couple of minutes silence he then said, "OK you got me I will Give you £12,000 trade in and will accpt £600 in cash. I was about to say yes but my wife blurted out.

"Tell you what, you take the simca and we will give you £500 Cash for the Renault.

After some heavy Breathing the salesman stuck out his hand and said we had a deal. We handed oof the keys to the Simca and £500 cash and he gave me the log book and the Renault 16TX. Without another wordwe drove off still not believing what had just happened.

As it turned out it was a real bargain and we had it for 3 years and we brought it to Caithness when we moves in 1983. You might have seen it around as it had a Big bear painted on the Bonnet and across the rear it said "Bearmobile II"

I didn't move to Caithness until 1991, I'm sure I'd remember a car as distinctive as that. [lol]

In 1987 I had another Car, Austin Princess, and this one also had a Large Teddy Bear painted on the Bonnet and this one was called " BearMobile III"

My Next car was a Volvo 440 and that one was Bronze in Colour and it had a Large Gree Dragon painted all over it. Cool it was. It has only been since 1991 that I have not had anything painted on my Car but I am still trying to get Mrs Kodiak to paint something on "The Captain"

I've owned countless cars but my favourite of them all was a Rover SD1, reg. C270 XSK, bought it from Edward Sutherland's garage in Halkirk in 1994 for £1100. It was great to drive, big thick seats that were very comfortable and loads of space too. There was a similar type of car in Thurso, a bright red 3500 Vitesse, reg A9 RVR. I was determined to buy it if I ever saw it for sale but unfortunately it didn't happen. Does anyone know if it's still on the road?

My first was a red 3 litre capri,oh how I loved that car!Cost me £200 to buy it and £1000 third party to insure it :) you could take the keys out of her and leave her running, had to disconnect the battery if you parked up cos when you shut the door the lights came on and you also had to wear a hood if it was raining as the sunroof leaked terribly! Her name was Betsy and I thought she was amazing! x

It was a bit daft for a first car looking back on it,but she was great to drive, although she didnt like the ice much,I span out of control once in her on a patch of ice and ended up facing the other way  she was also hard to get out of junctions with as the bonnet was so long! My how she purred though, like a beautiful tigeress! x

I hate to admit it but I had a Volkwagen Derby from Northern Ireland. The door had a knack to it and the seat belts were seriously odd in that there was no clip on them. You had to slide it in to the fixing point. Also the fuel gauge did not work so you had to keep a track of how far you had gone and it overheated if you were in a queue for too long. All that said, I loved my wee car.

An embarrassment to have in the street but he drove around in it as if it was a Ferrari - - -
I think it even had Carlos Fandango furry dice and he wore posy shades to cruise !!

It was less of a hardship to walk than put the disguise on you needed to get a lift in that one!

The day he told me he had wrecked it was such a happy day!!!
He got a decent one after that!! Red Cavalier if i recall - -what obscure rubbish to remember!!

My first one - -Vauxhall Chevette - Burgundy coloured, bought for £200 in 1985, about 10 year old - so you can tell it was a good un, and flogged onto an unsuspecting American woman working at the yankee base a year later for £400!! - - Result
I did feel bad a few weeks later when i seen it parked outside the garage in Halkirk!!!!

Of course - - -Sold As Seen !!!!
