It's very difficult to get anywhere to practice dude. That's a band's biggest challenge up here.

You may have to pay, but theres a few wild suggestions, some of which may not have been looked into.

Don't the BBs and Guides rent ?
Scrabster hall ?
Castletown Drill Hall ?
Ormlie Community Association ?
Pentland firth yacht Club used to let a band practice in their clubhouse ?
The big showroom behind Richards Garage where they had a play on ?
Icetec were renting parts of the Norfrost factory. What about a sponsored room there ?
Thurso College ?
The old tea shop next to Stepping Stones at the riverside ?
E&M,s old workshop/ office next to that ? Willie Reid is a veteran drummer !

the_big_mac did have a post up a while ago researching this very thing.
Not sure if he got enough feed back to run with it tho.

My band uses the Yacht Club during their off-season in winter. We used to use Scrabster Hall in summer but haven't used it since 2 years.

BB halls would be great, I'm not sure what the deal is with them anymore though.

Pretty much. Seeing as you asked me for number for Scrabster hall before and asked us to use Yacht Club once I reckon you already knew that.

Well Mr Hilarious I think you'll find it was the fact that we didn't have a kit to practice on at the time?

It is hard to find a place but I'm sure its not biggest problem? Tour vans are a big one these days I hear lolz

A while ago I'd have said finding musicians is a problem, but I can actually think of a rather good bass player and drummer who ain't playing in bands just now. In fact, I can think of two great drummers and bass players that aren't in bands.

It's finding the right people for your band though.

Finding rehearsal space, in some shape or form, isn't difficult. Just gotta ask around and chance your hand. Don't ask/don't get!

Thurso could do with a new original band or two. It's a bit disappointing that there's only a couple of young(ish... we're getting older!) rock bands in the town that play their own songs and get out and do it. I'd like to think there's more, but I don't think there is.

Wick have a couple of young rock bands. If you'd have said that to me 2 years ago, I'd have laughed in your face. Clearly MLM is doing somethng right for their young budding musicians. Rehearsal space and encouragement to play/record/socialise with other musicians.

In fact, just thought of another drummer.

Can't think of many guitar players actually. Weird, it was never like that in school!

So why ask for the number for Scrabster Hall if you didn't have a drum kit?
It might not be the biggest problem to find somewhere but clearly the OP is finding it difficult.

It isn't that easy, certainly not in Thurso where you won't be asked to turn down or can't play at certain times. It's far easier to get a place out of town I find, unless you get to use Skins :P
