I’m currently using Internet Explorer on my Dell PC. When I started the ‘puter this morning a window appeared offering a choice of web browsers. There’s Mozilla FIREFOX, Google CHROME, OPERA Browser, something called SAFARI and INTERNET EXPLORER 8.
Question 1 – what has initiated this ‘choice’?
I’ve only ever heard of FIREFOX, CHROME and IR8 so Question 2 – what are the pros and cons of these three?
If I change will any settings be disrupted?
Speed in not important to me since my ISP can only give me 312 Kbps at the moment.
I’d be very grateful for any help and advice from all you boffins out there. :D

1. Microsoft have been slated on and off for having a monopoly with Internet Explorer, so a recent windows update installed the browser choice thing.

2. Safari is the Apple/OSX browser, Opera has been around for a while also, I've tried Google Chrome and its not really my thing. I'd personally recommend Firefox with the Adblock extension. Even just upgrading to IE8 would be an improvement though.

Its a couple of years old but theres a comparison for them all at:

3. If you do change it shouldn't really disrupt anything.
