ok with my winnings I can splash out a bit on camera stuff but question I am asking myself is do I stick with my new SonyA700 camera and spend some money on a new lens or do I sell all my Sony stuff (A300 & A700 plus lenses) and start afresh with Canon?

If the latter what should I get - not sure if I am ready for the 5D yet or am I? or should I go for the best I can without going full frame...........or is my Sony ok and just as good as a Canon would be and I should just stick with that?

decisions decisions..............please help me decide!!! This money is burning a hole very quickly

Congrats Dragonfly, how lucky you are.

With your budget you have many options. Highly recommend full frame (but for long reach stuff - like surfing I go back to my 40D x1.6 crop cam!). I'm not familiar with the Sony scene (and have a Canon bias), but would suggest a 5D MkII is the way to go with a good spread of lenses (17-40mm f4, 28-70mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8 IS and a x2 converter):)

woah!! steady on Deemac only got £7k and half of that is spoken for for my studio for the pet photography lol

I only went with Sony as I had Minolta lenses and have been happy enough with them especially since changing to the A700, not sure if I were to go to the A900 (full frame) could still use the same lenses as with the 700? if so I might be highly tempted to stick with Sony

this link (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydslra900/) has a review and compares it to the A700 so knowing a bit more about cameras than I do you might make more sense out of it and advise?

This 'First Look' review may give you a better insight.

In almost every review or forum I follow, professional photograhers place the lens as more important than the body (within limits).

That said Full Frame seems to be the preferred choice for portrait/landscape work.

thanks for that link...........think for now I will just stick with my A700 and maybe splash out on a new lens for it, it does what I want and I'm happy with it.

A900 would need new lenses (think my ones would fit but major problems with vignetting from what I have been reading - unless thats only to get you to buy FF lenses) and I would be starting from scratch with Canon

but I can always be swayed!

editing to say that if I don't go for new FF camera think I will be going for this (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sony-24-70mm-f2-8-za-ssm-carl-zeiss-vario-sonnar-t-zoom-lens-/p1025375?utm_source=aw&awc=2298_1271618793_8f3de906bfb7ecfe63fbc4c2cf110a b5) to go with existing kit

This is a good website to track prices. It's updated at least daily.

I would also suggest a fast (2.8) 80-200 lens for tight crops.
You are wise in sticking with your existing kit, "The Law of Diminishing Returns" describes photography perfectly. You can pay an awful lot of money for just a slight increase in quality and unless you plan on producing prints bigger than A2 (old 20x16) your existing kit is more than adequate.

I have some studio equipment which I keep meaning to put on e-bay (backgrounds, flash meter, light stands) if you are interested in it send me a pm

good luck

May I say first of all say well done Dragonfly on your win :-) Hope you enjoy. As you may know I have gone back to Film. But feel I still need to use digital as you get the pictures quick. So I was speaking to my Cousin who did have a canon D20 I brought the camera and I am really pleased. Now they have stop making this camera but you can get good deals on different sites. I am sure this would do all you want and you would not have to splash out much ;)

Julie,

Sony inherited some quality engineering from Minolta, and their new lenses are getting good reviews, I have no idea what you have ordered, but I would stick with Sony and invest in some quality lenses that are suitable for full frame. Remember Sony are also one of the major manufacturers of sensors for DSLR's.

I would recommend Canon, but if you already have Sony lenses and they are not compatible with Canon, it may be better to stick with Sony.

Whatever you choose, you'll still be taking great pics  x x

Well it arrived today...........Sony A900 body :D my sigma 10-20mm isn't compatible as the camera is full frame but that will stay on the A700 and I have treated myself to a Carl Zeiss 24-70mm lens for the new camera, just want that to arrive now.

managed to get a bargain off ebay - a Sigma 70-300mm macro super for the new camera and well happy with the couple of test shots I took this afternoon at work!

Can't wait to get out and see what it can do!!!
