Saturday just passed,me and my sister travelling from thurso to wick via the watten road......

A car driving at 30mph from when we seen it at old hall, until wick.....ok we thought maybe the car is having engine troubles....OR NOT!!! It began to swerve onto the other side of the road, narrowly missing a black audi(felt sorry for you mate you must have poo'd yourself) almost hitting a bus,at this point i suspect either falling asleep or drinking so i phone the police station and notify of this car as it needed to be stopped before a serious accident happened.....

Now this is where you just dont believe what you are reading!! I was asked.....my full name and address, now am i missing something? but whats this got to do with the problem in hand?Anyhow a few near misses later and the car parked at a ridiculous angle, into the police station i went to be told yet again 'we will send somebody out' 2 coppers yapping away behind the person at reception and 3 police vehicles parked up.......

Its been on my mind....What if this person did smash?i was seriously concerned for other road users as well as this person, were the police interested.......not 1 bit!!

Not even an excuse was given 'no resources available etc' just... 'i will send somebody out'

Absolute disgrace,the end.

Another fine example of the fact that the world seems to have gone mad  You try to do a good deed you end up being the subject of form filling.

Some months ago my OH was attacked by a road rager at a Thurso filling station. I managed to get out of the car (he had OH and back seat passenger trapped with his knees) to stop him strangling my OH whilst phoning the police. I was asked stupid questions too, and bottom line was if he didn`t have a gun or a knife it wasn`t urgent.............in the background the filling station staff were shouting at me "you can`t use your mobile here".

Offender was given a police caution. OH recovered now, but he was very depressed for four months over this unprovoked attack.

Total insanity. You did what you had to do Upolian.

It would seem that common sense doesn't count for anything in modern policing and they have a system and procedure for everything:confused.

Wait for this one:

Last year my hubby was working on an old building and noticed a Kestrel nesting in the wall. He phoned the RSPB cos he was concerned that the work to the roof would cause her to flee the nest and he gave them all the details etc and all his details. They quite grumpily explained that basically the leaking roof (which was damaging internal structure of this listed building) would have to wait and no work could continue until the chicks had left.
So hubby worked a system out where he worked a maximum of 2 hours per day on it and kept watch to make sure the female returned etc.
Approx 5 weeks later we were raided by 4 police officers and an RSPB officer claiming that there was suspicion that we had taken either the eggs or the chicks..
Why? Because hubby had made that initial phone call. Bizarre.
Hubby was questioned under caution - under fricking caution, everyone else here was questioned, all our birds of prey paperwork was scrutinised and the sheds, aviaries etc checked.
All because hubby had made that one call about the concern of one Kestrel and her nest.

To top it all we were later told that the police weren't entirely convinced on the accuracy of the report they recieved or else they would have come more 'heavy handed'. What the $$$$!
Plus hubby was escorted to the job by the police and RSPB officers to examine the birds. Unfortunately a couple were dead on the ground as it seems they'd fallen from the nest. These chicks were tagged and bagged but can you imagine what they'd have thought if they'd all gone!!!

Ironically the RSPB guy asked if we'd be interested in housing any injured birds they get. Er no!!! And to be quite honest I don't think we'd ever contact them again either.

The whole fiasco was the fault of the RSPB apparantly and I have to say that the police officers were pretty great once they realised the whole story was wrong and that we were innocent.

So it would seem that if you want a response then you need to be an animal but even then the response takes 5 weeks.

One of our friends was attacked by a mad man and the police couldn't come out as the man lived 200yrds up a dirt track and the police couldn't get the 4x4 from Thurso

I've had to contact other police forces and in my limited experience with the police the problem is just Northern constabulary, not to defame anyone but they seem to get the recruits other forces don't want.

The other two policing areas I've had to contact them in were a lot better.

It could also have been that the driver was having a heart attack, diabetic episode etc. :(

Bloody ridiculous, these things should be treated seriously

What a bunch of horror stories! I think you all did the right thing by getting in touch with the police, but it will make you think twice about it in the future.

We had similar lack of action in my area until I decided to call in our local paper and get them to do an article about the indifference of the local police. That woke them up!! The chief inspector came round - wanted to know why I had done this article, wanted me to write a withdrawal (which I refused to do) and then he did a counter-balance article himself. Overall effect was an improvement in police response. Stick to your guns - public opinion and public votes keep these guys in jobs.

It ain't just Northern Constabulary. Kent Police stole my wife's car 3 years ago. We too contacted the local papers and they did an article and editorial on us - then the police finally did something. They just think they can do what they want. I have no time for them.
