I am not completely sure but that bird has some markings of a whinchat rather than a stonechat.
They are very similar but the giveaway is the white stripe above the eye
and the lighter patch under the beak.

Thank-you kas and rheghead, i can now see the difference, now i even more delighted to get a photo of stonechat, and a whinchat, but i am so determined to get a photo of a yellowhammer that is teasing me, grrrrrrrrrr!!! lol

Nice photos there. I thought the bird was a juv stonechat. I must go and look up those books. Rheg showing me how it is done.:D
