Sad to see he's gone. :( He was often on TV when I was growing up, and had a lovely voice. He and Moira Anderson sang some beautiful duets together!

Thanks Aaldtimer for your post about Kenneth McKellar's death. Things like this would pass us expats by if it wasn't for mentions on the Org. Like Sporran I too grew up hearing his songs.

Hello all,

We've created a tribute page for Mr McKellar (http://www.lastingtribute.co.uk/tribute/mckellar/3293971), if any of you would like to contribute.

A sad loss.

Sorry for not using your tribute page, but signing in for yet another thing with yet another password is not for me.

I remember fondly hearing him sing on BBC Scotland radio as a teenager. Since my voice is also tenor, I would greatly enjoy trying to sing along with him - thankfully there would rarely be someone too close for their own comfort.

He helped imprint many Scottish songs into my heart. Now, many years after having left Scotland, it is his rendition that still comes to mind when I think of several songs, including 'O my love is like a red red rose.' He had the complete package of a soaring tenor voice, diction and passion.

My greatest thrill was to have seen him live a couple of times at King's theatre in Edinburgh, in the mid-to-late 60's and perhaps the early 70's.
I certainly now need to search for some CD's to add to my collection.

The obit in the Daily Torygraph is also worth a read. They reckoned the only reason he wasn't a big-time opera star was lack of ambition, since he was more interested in doing the Scottish stuff. Also he used to work for the Forestry Commission, and he wrote scripts for Monty Python!
