I have been looking around trying to find either someone who could build a website for me or one I could build myself and while I loved a couple of companies ideas at the moment their prices are a bit beyond my reach.
All I was looking for was a website that I could display an image gallery on, one that I could have a few pages, a way for viewers to shop online and most importantly affordable.
I use Vistaprint for various items and am always getting inundated with emails from them and it was one of these emails that had a months trial free on their websites so I signed up for the free trial (http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/websites.aspx?xnav=LeftItem&xnid=MarketingServices&dng=1141736) and began right away in building my website. I took the Professional option as that was the only one with a PayPal shopping cart but was that pleased with it I signed up for the year there and then and all for under £100 including domain name.
OK its not perfect when it comes to how I could set up the online purchasing but it works
here's my website (http://www.julie-fraser.co.uk/default.html) if you want to see how it looks
I'd certainly recommend Vistaprint websites to anyone and if you don't want a shopping cart its extremely good value

they don't have the option of selling online though which is what I needed but still looks a fab company for setting up a site
I dont have need to sell online. But I thought I saw somewhere on there site that there was an option for that.!!
I actually logged on with the intention of asking about websites, well you have answered it for me! Your website is very nice,i will be using them, cheers for the heads up :D
www.one.com (http://www.one.com) is even cheaper (I paid less than £30 last year) and they have 24/7 IM support so someone can talk you through any issues :)

I use 1and1 (http://www.1and1.co.uk) for my website - they've got a massive range of templates and plenty of addons.
My website (http://www.far-north-driving-school.co.uk) is pretty basic. I just used their simple templates as there is a lot of text and little need to be overly 'visual' - but the possibilities are limitless.

Are you an instructor Northener?!
I'am with Spanglefish i've got the free one where you use there name plus yours i've had it now nearly 2 years it's been really good :D
There are plenty of options for free sites or cheap ones.
Beware of the deal with regards to your domain name, some companies offer it as part of the package, make sure that you own it and you don't get hammered for transferring it elsewhere if you need to move it.
I own all my domains separately from the webspace I have, I've also managed to cobble together the websites I own/run.
If anyone is doing their own site and just needs space to host it, send me a PM. I've got more bliddy space that I could ever hope to fill and that includes SQL databases.
