Wow. I've just had the pleasure of watching one of these amazing creatures.
We saw this large cat from about 150 metres away and a pair of binos confirmed the sighting.
Very large chunky cat with definite stripes and a large chunky tail with definite black rings ending in a solid black end. Massive puddy cat!
Gorgeous to see and watch though.

If you ever wonder if you'll confuse it for a normal tabby cat should you see one, have no fear, there is no confusion possible with the brute I just saw.
Fabulous end to the day. :)

I had a beautiful cat years ago whose Father was a wild cat in skerray near Bettyhill. for years it would come near to my aunts door for food but would never come near her. it would eat the food then go away. it also had a fancy for my aunts tabby cat. the result was 2 kittens, one of which i had. huge, long body big bushy tail short fat legs, lovely stripes, ringed tail and what a spoilt big baby he grew into. He died in my kitchen from kidney failure aged 16. They are beautiful creatures.

Lucky you, Porshie. I have only seen a wild cat kitten. When I were young (;)), we was camping out in the sticks at Castletown and early in the morning this 'kitten' comes into our tent, all a bit spitty and hissy. I recognised the tail right off and warned the others not to pick it up. Cute little wotsit, though.

You can report sightings here www.highlandtiger.com (http://www.highlandtiger.com)

or www.scottishwildcats.co.uk (http://www.scottishwildcats.co.uk) very helpful for them to know where sightings occur.

Already done, thanks though!

Fraid to say the last time I seen one was 35-40 years ago, it had been shot and was laid out in a neighbours back lobby with him 'proud as punch'!! It was supposedly the 'last' wildcat in Caithness. Glad to hear that it wasn't, what a magnificant and ginormous cat it was! Locations of sightings must be kept secret, otherwise the 'trophy' hunters will be out again and they'll be hunted to near extinction again!!

I have seen many, check out the back road to Loch More, and the back road to Wester Olrig.

Best I have seen was a pair of them on the road near the South turn off in winter.

They are not unusual, just not apparent.

I'm sure I saw one last year on the road from Watten up to the railway crossing. Beautiful cat. Stocky and like Porshiepoo's sighting it had clear pronounced stripes and a large thick tail with black rings ending in a solid black end. Stunning.
