yes he's gone to the great ska gig in the sky.

I know this a musical thread.................BUT...................he had some class hits & I believe the general orgers should know (if they don't already)

anyway I'm off to listen to ska in memory of DD

BTW there's a link about it in the music forums

The isrealites-------------------some of you will remember that from the time 1969 I believe

RIP Desmond Decker

Oh aye with me flares and Ben Sherman shirt I'd be down the 'New Century Hall' or the 'Top of the Town' grooving to 'Israelites' c.1969.
'Me shirt am a tear up, trousers are gorrrn.'
I remember Desmond. He was a one hit wonder I think. Nowt wrong wi' that.

R.I.P.

Sad to hear that Desmond Dekker has passed away! :~(

Yes, I well remember his 1969 hit 'Israelites' - a very catchy song! I used to enjoy dancing to it (in my mini skirt) at the teenage disco in the 'Barn' at Viewfirth! :D I also liked his cover version of Jimmy Cliff's 'You Can Get It If You Really Want', which came out the following year.

I remember an advert for Maxell cassette tapes where muffled lyrics were misquoted. The one for Desmond Decker went "Oh, Me Ears are Alight"

That might come true now if he is being cremated!!

Desmond Dekker had a few hits in the 60's and 70's.

His Hits Were:

007 (Shanty Town) which reached no. 14

Israelites which reached no. 1

It Miek which reached no. 7

YCGIIYRW which reached no. 2

& Sing a Little Song Reached 16 in 1975.

That Gives him Instant Access to the Heavenly Choir (Without the Formal Interview).
