we have been visited today in kirtomy by what we think is a blackcap. rare for these parts apparently, but it looks the part and exhibits all the characteristic behaviour. has anyone else seen one?

Hi YL,

In Caithness Blackcap is a fairly common passage migrant, uncommon migrant breeder and scarce winter visitor. There were 67 reports between 2003 and 2009. The Highland Bird Report (includes Sutherland but not Caithness) lists Blackcap as 'uncommon breeder, mainly in East, uncommon migrant and scarce but increasing winter visitor' with a peak in spring records mid April.

Haven't seen one recently myself but always nice. A good record, YL.

Cheers,
Iain

At least three different male blackcaps singing in Achvarasdal yesterday.
