View Full Version : Scottish republican socialist, author and protester from Aberdeen

Peter Dow

Hi Caithness I thought I would register here just to say "hello" and let you see this video of me which was broadcast on BBC 2 Scotland in December 2008.

Scottish republican socialist, author and protester (Video profile) (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=789SkK7uwiY)

Now I have a politics website and a political discussion forum for anyone who is interested I will link to one of my blogs (http://peter-dow.blogspot.com/)and you can follow the links there if you are interested.

I am not intending to discuss my politics in this Caithness forum here because I have a quite a robust debating style and I understand that there are strict rules here which limit the use of language which is allowed to be used and I am respecting the forum rules.

So although I am interested in explaining to adult voters all about my politics, if you want me to reply to questions or points you might have you can send me a Private Message or register with my political forum and debate it there where we can speak freely. Fair enough?

If you are such a staunch Republican as you say you are why are you posing in your blog Picture with the ROYAL standard of Scotland?

Im curious as to the justification for a Scots Republican to be using a Standard which Scots who wished to restore the Scottish Crown would rally to?

Flashman asked a particular question and there is a particular page on my website which has the answer but as I say I don't even want to start posting direct links to my webpages because my politics sometimes uses robust language and this forum has strict rules about links as well.

I will PM the link to Flashman and the standing invite to anyone who wants to debate my politics with me is to do so in my political discussion forum, the For Freedom Forums, again, no direct link, please use the link to my blog I gave in my first post to find your way there.

True enough - trouble is that Burns was a very staunch Tory so I looked for a quote that fit rather than the man. It seemd to fit a bit.

How would MacBeth be - but I'll have to think aboot it?

"Say, from whence
You owe this strange intelligence? or why
Upon this blasted heath you stop our way
With such prophetic greeting?"

I am not alone in this, having read it on a number of occasions; this from the Telegraph;

"MEPs held their Burns Supper last night, under the stewardship of that flinty patriot, Struan Stevenson. Proud Scots mingled with puzzled Continentals who strained to understand the great man’s vernacular. The Immortal Memory was proposed by Mike Russell, the SNP Environment Minister, who expatiated with enthusiasm and learning on Burns’ enduring appeal. The first Burns Supper, he reminded us, had been held just five years after the poet’s death. This year is his 250th anniversary.

Great writers, by definition, are at once particular and universal. When we carry our experience to their verse, it is our experience that is enriched, not their verse. We are forever being surprised by how apt Burns’ lines are to our present mood and circumstances, almost regardless of what those circumstances are. Burns is at once a national and an international poet, a Scottish particularist and a British patriot, a radical and a Tory."

How come you've arrived on the site, made your own political and personal views available for everyone to see and then said in the same breath that you don't want to discuss them on here?

Rather an odd way of doing it, isn't it? That's why a made my rather cynical remark (which I've modified as I was a bit naughty - apologies) earlier.

Are you just using this place as an advertising platform or are you going to bring something to the table?

Robert Burns a Tory, only an Englishman could come up with that one. I wonder where you got that one from.

Another mistake Golach.

This link is not about Burns, but a companion, Charles James Fox who, if you read link was:

"..applauded the revolt of the French soldiers against their officers at the time of the Revolution, to join the people in their struggle for liberty; he was strongly in favour of abolishing the slave trade; attacked the maladministration of the Navy; and wanted shorter Parliaments to limit the Crown's influence, to which he attributed most of the country's misfortunes.."

I would vote for C J Fox today if his manifesto included the above

Why do I think him a Tory?

Well because I could not imagine a whig writing this;

http://www.robertburns.org/works/525.shtml

I cannot paste the poem because it's too long.

For all his criticism of inequality, the King etc he speaks of defending Britain and not setting the mob aboun the throne. If he was a Whig he's doing some pretty fighting talk for the period - Fox wanted an accommodation with France.

As to my being English - I know there are Scottish Tories too. Not many - I'll give you that, but some.

And the poem you cite has this in it;

"I'm no mistrusting Willie Pitt,
When taxes he enlarges,
(An' Will's a true guid fallow's get"

He seems to like Pitt.

Good luck with the political revolution. The point's already been made but secondary congratulations on the abject FAIL of being pictured by a Royal Standard when positioning yourself as an anti-monarchist!

You need to think about the presentation. Think about what your trying to get across visually as well as verbally.

Holy Jebus H Corbett!

What do I have to offer a woman?

As a father to our children, they would expect to inherit some of my superior genes. I am fit, healthy, strong, very clever and well educated. I have demonstrated some of my abilities as a man in this website which I have produced myself. Most men would have to pay someone to produce a website as good as this. I can do many things myself which means that I don't need as much money as others do to be comfortable. So my children could be likely to achieve more than the children of most men.Christ, I reckon most web developers would be embarrassed to charge money to produce a website as 'good' as that.

However I cannot offer a woman riches. I live off welfare and have done for years - it is a reliable, though low, income which increases to a couple's allowance if I can find a partner who is "habitually resident in the UK" - lived for years in Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland. I believe it may be possible to get benefits for citizens of any European Union country right away as well.

I am pro-Scottish of course but actually most of my previous lady friends have come from outside Scotland originally. Of course, welfare here does pay extra for children and so I can afford to bring up kids no problem. A woman with no kids of her own yet but keen to start a family would be ideal.
It's all just the deluded ramblings of a scrounging work-shy git.

Hello again Peter

I think my earlier reply may have been a little childish, I don't think your are the previously banned member I mentioned, but I digress....

I've had a brief look through your site(s), I haven't had the time to look into everything in depth but I have found it raises more questions than answers.

For me I find this interesting:

"I live off welfare and have done for years - it is a reliable, though low, income which increases to a couple's allowance if I can find a partner who is "habitually resident in the UK" - lived for years in Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland. I believe it may be possible to get benefits for citizens of any European Union country right away as well. Quite a polarisation from the public schoolboys we often see in politics I agree, however, do you think this appears to be a good role model?
To me this reads like you have chosen this way for a method of income, I may have jumped to conclusions and there may be genuine reason but it doesn't read well.

"Waist-to-hips ratio
This table describes my preferred maximum waists and the corresponding minimum hips dimensions in a woman."

I apologise here as I'm obviously digressing from your political views, but I think this gives us an idea of your mindset, obviously not fussy!
BTW this is what you have put within your website so it is in the public domain. Whilst were on the subject of your website:

"I have demonstrated some of my abilities as a man in this website which I have produced myself. Most men would have to pay someone to produce a website as good as this."

Peter, please take a step back and have a look at your website. it really doesn't do you the justice you think.

Your sites do have some questionable images (in my mind at least), like a gun target overlaid on a photograph of a Royal car, this with your own quotes of "I "want the Queen dead"!".

Not what I would consider democratic.

I do applaud your views on independence, the SNP / Salmond rhetoric is just window dressing, more a re-branding of Scotland than real independence.

BUT, how do you propose it all works?
Financially, socially, logistically etc. etc. etc.

Where does the EU, UN, NATO and even England & Wales figure in your views / plans of a Scottish Republic?
How do you see the civil service working in Scotland. The Police forces, Military, Immigration and Passport agencies that would be required.

Taxation, how would that work?

Enough for now, catch you later.

Just had a chance to look at the his page proper.... not really impressed.

Any Republican that dresses up like a brownshirt with a royalist flag clearly has gotten a bit confused somewhere down the line.

As an advertising coup he's done well on here........

His site made me laugh, 10 out of 10 for comedy value. He should have waited until tomorrow for posting though.

I'm looking forward to his personal return to the org. I like a bit of robust debate.

In the immortal words of.......john little, "Where's Peter?" If he had been front and centre for the Rainbow Alliance he might have swung it and had a seat on the cabinet by now

What an opportunity lost :Razz

I'm rather disappointed that Peter hasn't posted his views on here.
Looking at his site, even though I disgree with his views he comes across as someone who deals with people on an individual basis fairly (apart from 'the Queen' who, apparently is the root of all evil)...he knocked back one rabid anti-English poster on his site quite succintly.

Ah well...if only we had an Asda.....

Now there's a thought, being the leader of his party and if the other parties couldn't get their act together. Potentially he could of been dragged to the Palace to meet Her Maj' and invited to form a Government.

It'd be a good photo opportunity, watching him going in with a running headbutt?

Are you not joining in our wee debate on independence Peter?

I thought I recognised that name. What a blast from the past, indeed enough to rouse me from my regular lurking in the far more civilised Birdwatching threads. ;-)Mind you, if I had a past like Peter, the last thing I'd be doing was posting links on old threads like this, bringing them to the attention to a whole new generation of Orgers! Still, it's good for the old comedy value. Now, all we need is someone to revive the old farting thread too, that was a cracker too...

Burn's is claimed by the whole political spectrum.Coming from the left, I know if he had a hand in 'Scots Wha Hae', it was through his awareness of the 'Scottish Martyrs', if he did write 'Tree of Liberty', then he could not be right wing.

Well, I have just read all of this thread all the way through............I am just angry I didn't join the .Org earlier than I did cos it looks like I missed all the fun!!!!

But I am dying to know how many females Peter attracted and how many superior children he managed to produce. With child allowance at an all time high he must be rolling in benefits!!

I don't give a damn about the dam John but I am damn well furious that someone can damn well breed superior kids just to bolster their damn benefits!!!

I agree with you.

Let's damn the dam, dam the benefit flow for the procreation of superior beings, and boldly say that it's a load of wind!
