SKY will be launching 3D TV on 3rd April with the Football Match of Manchester United V Chelsea.

But it looks like you need to have a 3D TV to access this. Since I have only just bought myself a new HD TV it wont be anytime soon I will be buying a 3D TV.

I was advised that the full residential launch won't be until the Autumn (when other things such as 3D movies will start to appear), if you're a very early adopter and get a 3D TV before then, it looks from the press release (http://corporate.sky.com/media/press_releases/2010/Sky_3D_Launch.htm)that you'll be able to phone up and get the 3D channel added to your line-up so that you can view the promo loop. The 3D channel won't cost anything extra to HD viewers, but you'll still need to phone Sky up to be able to view it.

Did we not get conned with 3D in the 80s? Jaws 3 was one of the disaster releases in 3D and I'm sure there was more, all flops.
Now we can watch football in 3D. Why?
A heap of you know what, that won't last.

Don't worry, it will be another 50 years before they bother to get it to work in Caithness anyway :Razz

Even though 3D has gotten much better than it has in the 80's :p I still don't have much faith in it, I only just got a HDTV and I ain't upgrading anytime soon.

Sky have been trialling 3d premiership games in some pubs down south with great feedback from the boozed up viewers .......given that sky are pushing the HD upgrades heavily at the moment it makes sense for them to have a further better system of viewing on offer to further entice the technofreaks and original HD Customers amongst us.........Money makes the murdoch world go round!

Having watched final destiation in 3d at the weekend I wasn't that impressed. Not sure 3d tv will take off? The odd movie or football match fine but not all the time. How much will sky charge for this?

Don't know how much Sky is but a 3D TV being sold by currys is £3,000+ extras:

Said "first" 3D TV is a Sony (http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/bravia-lcd-televisions/3/1) 52in job which retails for a pound under three grand. And don't forget, that doesn't include the essential 3D glasses. These cost £100 a pair. You'll also have to buy a transmitter to allow the TV to synchronise itself with the specs, and that costs £75.

Apparently a 3D TV for which you don't need goofy glasses has been created, it's just cripplingly expensive.
