I have just discovered that they dont do hip-replacements in Wick Hospital ! You have to travel to Raigmore, Inverness !:~(

Has anyone been through the process of a hip replacement in the Caithness area ? If so how did it go ?

quite frankly i'm suprised you thought they could do that here! unfortunately wick is pretty much a glorified first aid station!

as for the hip replacements i know several people who have had this done safely and successfully with no problems, in fact the mobility it gives is quite a reviver for the patient.

Thing is, yes Wick hospital isnt "up to date" as some will say. But they are slowly upgrading alot of their equipment, the new(ish) CT machine has gone down wonders, the sonographers have new equipment. My OH said seeing the scan was like baby pics in HD

I think Wick will slowly get their with what they need too. I dont really see much negatives in the hospital. If we dont look at the positives then whats the point in it being there at all?

Also what about Dunbar Hospital in Thurso. What does it do now? That was a booming hospital just a few decades ago. Maternity unit aswell!

Come on folks, we need to support it just even a tiny little bit. :D

Wick has only ever carried out routine surgery - anything specialist is done elsewhere. So anyone coming expecting the full works is in for a disapoitment.

They won't even remove a wisdom tooth in Wick so you've got no chance of a hip op!

Had two hip replacements in 2006. Went from 10 pain killers a day to none. Had no problems after operations, and on the go everyday.

Seeing as its Week there has never been much call for anything to do with wisdom

The only reason hip operations are not done at wick is because there is no orthoepidic surgeon, same as there are no pedeatric nurses in wick so children have to go to inverness also. Wick is a very good hospital and is also a teaching hospital. We are lucky to have it.

My wife had her gall bladder removed at Caithness General last year. In on the Friday morning, out on the Saturday afternoon.

Exemplary care provided throughout. Top class service.

I've had my own dealings with CGH over the years, and I cannot fault their professionalism.

They're priceless in our community.
