You never know what will or won't turn up when you're birding. This morning I took a run round the county to see what was about, maybe turn up some spring migrants.
Didn't do too well for migrants though there was a male wheatear at Castlehill. Poor showing from waders and no sign of the bar-tailed godwit that was on Dunnet beach yesterday. I scanned thousands of geese that were all pink-footed or greylags; had greenland white-front at Mey yesterday but not today. Twelve species of duck today but only one raptor! Then the birds I wasn't expecting with great crested grebe on St. John's Loch and great spotted woodpecker in Achvarasdal but didn't see a song thrush. Never mind 80 species wasn't too bad for a morning's work.
Back home to walk the dog and picked up another three species while we were out, still no song thrush. Enjoyable day.
