Have you tried buying the led spotights, you can get them from homebase. they have about 15 - 20 led bulbs inside them, they aren't cheap but they last for about 10 years and they don't emit a strong light so ideal for a shelving unit. They also come in blue and colour changing of you fancy the disco effect!!

Sounds as if the wiring needs to be replaced. Bulbs shouldn`t keep blowing unless there is another problem.

If they are 12 Volt halogen bulbs it's possible something's wrong with the transformer. If they are halogen bulbs, remember never to handle them directly, but use a tissue so you don't contaminate the glass.

Overheating, Transformer or Wiring.

My bet if it's the same position is the ceramic holder, the springs that hold the lamp pins may be loose causing it to arc and blow the lamp.

Transformers normally fail and you get no power output so nothing would work, wiring may affect more than one lamp position and overheating could be a bit random unless there is something covering the lamp fitting in question.

You could always rip out these airy fairy pretty little lights and just mount a 500w SON E lamp, won't look quite the same but you can get well over 25,000 hours life out of 'em.
