Sadly Michael Foot has died

I did not agree with much he said, but he did genuinely believe in what he stood for.

We need more politicians like him today.

Hear, hear. Regardless of political affiliations I do miss politicians who had fire in their bellies and passion in their hearts for a cause they truly believed in. His was probably the last generation who were involved in politics because they believed in a cause and not a personal career path.
Today’s politicians with all their image makeovers, drama training (under the thin guise of ‘public speaking’ coaching) and carefully planned out career paths are indistinct homogenised messes - not even worthy of the walk to the polling station.

Very genuine man. Sad loss-mind you he lived to 96 so he must have been doing something right :Razz

One of the finest politicians of the last 50 years.
Socialism died when he was replaced as head of Labour party

Bit of a "lefty" though, and unilateral disarmament? -We would have looked pretty stupid now

Although I frequently disagreed with him, he commanded respect as a man who believed and fought his cause, he was an elder statesman in a class of his own.

If current policticians across the world could show some of the forward thinking and compassion that Michael Foot showed, the world would be a better and safer place to live in.

Totally misread the mood of the country at that time Re: "the longest suicide note in history". But at least HE was honest...
