You can get lovely Easter money wallets, just pop in a fiver and goes in the piggy bank. Far more sensible than wasting money on rubbish.

At the age of 9 Months you can buy him almost anything and in reality as long as it makes his Parents happy you won't go wrong.

So how about aomething completely different.

Arrange for a Photographer to take a Family Photograph and get it framed. That way his parents will be happy and when he is older it will be something he will be able to cherish.

I am sure most parents would agree that the children get far too much chocolate and have probably far too many toys. I would quite happily ban Easter in my house. Bah humbug, I know, but with three sprogs my cupboards are bursting. A few pound in an Easter card as already suggested would be a good idea.

Easter is too commercialised, just like Christmas, just another way for retailers to get you to spend your money.

I wonder how many kids know what Easter is really about (whether that be through reading the Bible or learning about pagan festivals).

Totally agree with the last couple of posts. Just another scam to get parents and grandparents to part with their cash and further spoil their offspring. The significance of the event is totally lost on the vast majority of those who give and receive gifts.

When my wee one was a baby we got her a (toy) fluffy duck, she also got a easter bunny.

How about....nothing.

Can someone identify the juncture in history at which the concept of an "easter gift" came into being.

As I am not religious, then Easter, like christmas is simply a holiday where gifts are given. It has been just this for as long as I can remember.

I was taught all the bible stories in school and I understand that it is a religous experience for some, and would not want to take that away from anyone.

Just because I don't believe in the religous stuff doesn't mean no one can have sweets and pressies on these occasions.

Live and let life. If you want to go to church, then go. If however, you want to just hava a fun few days off work/school then do that too.

A few years ago I had the grand total of 33 easter eggs sitting around the house-3 kids-11 eggs each  that was the point that i asked relatives to either not give,or buy something small like a t-shirt for the kids that would last longer and be better for them, its worked too!x

I can see a correlation between gift giving and the story of Christmas (3 Wise Men and all that), but Easter ?!?

Surely, if anything, we should be taking something away to reflect the story of Easter.

Or perhaps nailing up some shelves.

Lent is about taking things away.

Easter is the ressurection, therefore, surely in religous terms, that would be considered a gift.

Hey, if you want to dilute and trivialise your religion, don't let me stand in your way.

A nice white T-shirt and a easter egg to eat by himself!

The photos would be worth it:lol:

As I don't have a religion, it would be very hard to trivialise it.

Having said that, I wasnt trying to trivialise anything.

If I thought someone I loved was dead, then found out they wern't I would consider that a gift.

What part of that is trivial?

So hands up all those who 'celebrate' Easter by indulging in the giving of chocolate eggs and t-shirts (?!?) who ALSO 'celebrate' Lent by giving up something ?

[scans for hands]

Thought so.

Hmmn how very good of you to assume that there is nobody on here who has religious beliefs [disgust] I would rather my kids got a t-shirt that they can wear than a bit of chocolate but I dont have to justify my reason for doing so do I? For the record though-seeing as you are new to these forums,I asked simply because as a single parent the t-shirt or whatever little gift they gave would do far more good than a chocolate egg would-and most relatives want to give kids something! As for giving up something for Lent, yeah I gave up the forum for a while, but always ended up being dragged back on to give "reason" for my actions ;)
At the end of the day people will chose to celebrate or mark the day however they choose, and IMO as long as they do mark it whats the problem?x

It's got to be chocolate eggs and the mini ones without any e numbers as seen in www.toffeecrumble.com (http://www.toffeecrumble.com) :) failing that a rugby ball? Get him started young and it's nearly the same shape as an Easter egg!
